Australia Domain Registration Rules (Simplified)

To register an Australian Domain Name, you have to comply with these rules. You will be expected to meet the following requirements.

.COM.AU &  .NET.AU

To register a .com.au or .net.au you must be an Australian registered company, or business with a registered business number. You can also be a sole trader with a business number (ABN, BRN, BN).
The domain name you register should have a solid relationship to the business it represents.

For example:
Amber IT Services would be reasonably entitled to register:

www.amber.com.au
www.amberit.net.au
www.amberitservices.com.au
www.it.com.au
www.itservices.com.au

.ORG.AU & .ASN.AU

To register these domains your organisation must be a "non-commercial organisation".
The domain name you register should have a solid relationship to the business it represents.

For example:
Care Australia are reasonably entitled to own:

www.care.org.au
www.care.asn.au
www.careaus.org.au
www.careaustralia.org.au

.ID.AU

To register a id.au domain you must be a individual, who reside in Australia.
You may register ANY personal name by which you are known.

For example:
Bruce Smith would be reasonably entitled to register:

www.bruce-smith.id.au
www.tinybruce.id.au
www.BDog.id.au
